everyone who competed was absolutely amazing! and I think everyone who competed can say with confidence that they now know they are stronger than they thought they were before this weekend started! thanks to everyone who came out and gave us their support, it meant a lot!!
I think I can speak on behalf of team #DYEFC? (not to be confused with “dye CF”) when I say THANK YOU to everyone who came all the way out to the middle of nowhere today to support us at the Firestarter Challenge. It really made a huge impact on us having you guys cheer us through our WODs – specially the last one, when we were already fatigued and ready to be done. For Cat, Jose, and I, this was our first competition, and I know this was the case for most of our athletes who competed in the individual division on Saturday. It was a fun, albeit painful, experience. So thank you for showing up and encouraging us! And go CF RTP!!!
Thanks so much to everyone for coming out. It made a big difference to see you and hear you cheering!
I also forgot to mention that Murph went into beast mode and got a 180# 3RM OHS today. *start slow clap*
I think this beastmode was contagious and took the entire spectator crowd and all the other teams into cheering beast mode.
Murph is always in Beast Mode!!!
I want to second what Wade said about being stronger. Competition shines a bright light on weaknesses and forces you to address them. We are all better athletes for having been there this weekend.
Mad props to Revanth and Satana for competing after CrossFitting for only FOUR MONTHS. It was really inspiring to watch them both bang out these WODS. (Satana got a PR OHS after learning how to do them only six days before — talk about being stronger.) And congratulations to Wade for finishing 8th overall in his first competition. He pulled out some amazing performances, including a nail-biting 200m spring at the end of the first WOD that kicked him up in the standings.
And let me add my thanks to everyone who came out to watch. It made a huge difference having y’all there!
Oh — we’ll have some pictures, too. My buddy Jordan came to taste the CrossFit Kool-Aid and ended up taking a lot of photos. I’ll forward them to someone when he gets them to me.
Great Dave! Thanks for bringing your buddy! Please have him share with info@crossfitrtp.com and I’ll get them out.
thanks Dave!
Thanks Dave! I had a blast challenging myself on Saturday. This was the most fun I ever had finishing at the bottom of anything…
More importantly, my daughters were there. They got to see me not only compete but stick with something I wasn’t particularly good at. I got two great compliments that day, one from Dave, who said my perseverance in WOD 4 was “fuckin’ awesome” and my 8 yr old who said pretty much the same thing (but with cleaner language). Thanks for all the support!
wasn’t there. wish I was. but I was keeping track via the online scoreboard. so proud of you guys!! great to hear you guys had so much fun and you all sound so happy!! I am particularly inspired by all of you who lost your cf competition virginity!! I can’t wait to hear more about your favorite memories and experiences!
I think I’m more sore from judging than I am from competing
Seriously. Like I got hit by a truck, twice. I always forget that being “on” for 8-10 hours and standing/squatting most of the time is tough business.
Hard to complain though, given all the hard work going on around me 😛
the one thing crossfit doesn’t train us for is standing in place for hours on end
You all did such a fantastic job. Seeing each and every one of you give it your all, stick with some of the hardest stuff to the bitter end, and just plain ol’ KILL IT.
I wish I could have seen more of you at work, but I hope you got to hear my hollers from across the floor every chance I could.
So very proud of you. On to the next! 😉
“201, 202, 203, GO MURPH, errrr ummm, 1, 2, 3, 4….”
This is why we can’t have nice things.
Hahahahaha
Since everyone summed it up so well, I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.
I’m extremely proud of everyone who went out there this weekend and gave it their all!
Shout out to Revanth and Satana for both getting in there and throwing down with everyone even if they were relatively new to CrossFitting! Revanth was “Mr. I didn’t practice any of the WODs and am going to wing this whole thing” and did a great job pushing through especially on the deadlift burpee WOD! Satana was faced with something she’d never done before in a “wall walk” and even though the task was daunting, she persevered and never gave up in that workout! Megan competed in her first competition ever and it was great seeing her have so much fun! David you rocked out some deadlifts and went “mad dog” on those double unders! Wade had 2 nice “clutch” moments as time was expiring in WOD 1 (last lap in the run) and in WOD 4 (when he went unbroken through all the bear crawls and narrowly edged out another competitor by a few seconds).
On Sunday, we saw an awesome team effort put on by team DYECF! I was really impressed by the level of communication and teamwork these guys showed and even though they weren’t the most athletic team out there (there were plenty of much stronger and more experienced CrossFit athletes), they did a great job maximizing their own strengths within the team! A few notable moments: Murph’s overhead squat 3 rep max at 180 brought the whole house down and spectators were really congratulatory after that event. Anmar and Jose carried the team in the wall-walks. Cat had trouble adding numbers when loading the bar in the OHS but made up for it when she hit a PR 3RM OHS!
All in all it was a great weekend and I am so proud of you guys putting it all out there!
I also want to point out that Wade and team DYECF were great sports and cheered on their fellow competitors within their heat after finishing each workout!
I had so much fun. Thank you for putting this together, Anmar. I love being a part of this gym. Thank you for the support this weekend and every day. I’m excited to see the things we all accomplish together.
